A lot's been happening and thus my blog has been neglected but I have some time now...
Life at Wal-Mart has begun. After four hours of orientation and about seven hours of computer training, I am training on the floor with the best cashiers. Friday night, my first night on the floor, went poorly. I was vastly unprepared and very nervous. Combined with my trainer being possibly the quickest checker I've ever seen (her IPH is over 900, that's one item scanned every 4 seconds; Wal-Mart wants one item per 10 seconds), I felt very pathetic. But things turned around today. I trained with some other cashiers and did a lot of checking and did well. Gained some confidence back. Now I need to remember some often used produce codes (4011 is bananas, lol). I work a few more shifts this week.
And I have a new job. I'm now a co-deliverer of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette with my dad. He needed some help and it's going to pay for my insurance and phone and some bonus plans for my KRZR (Mobile Web and basic text messaging). Getting up at 2AM in the morning is not my cup o' tea but I suppose I'll get used to it. This morning was a crude awakening (lol @ the pun). Sunday papers require some assembly and some tough rolling into the bags (the papers barely fit in my hands and required some stretching of my thumb to hold). Plus there are more houses to deliver too. Plus the Democrat-Gazette requires the delivery to be to the front porch, within 18 inches of the front door preferably. Why? I don't know. The local paper delivers to the driveway. Driveway delivery would make the job a ton easier, wouldn't require getting out of the car, and would be more practical but whatever. Who can understand the media? In all the places we've lived we've never had front porch delivery. Anyways, after everything, we were done right after 5. I was awake from 2-5. I hope the weekdays don't take as long...I plan on sleeping to 10AM tomorrow since I don't have to work tomorrow afternoon and I don't have anything going on. Maybe even 10:30AM. It was almost like taking two naps last night. One for three hours and one for two hours. Not fun but life isn't fun. Stupid car insurance costs...
My eyes are already heavy. I won't get to watch the Dallas Stars hockey game tonight. Both of my teams in the playoffs, Dallas and Nashville, are tied at one game apiece with Vancouver and San Jose, respectively. The NHL was stupid to sign the deal with Versus. That means the only playoff hockey I see is the games on FSN Southwest (3 out of 7). When you're trying to win fans back, I'd suggest getting the product more out there even if it doesn't make as much money (I think that was the fall through of the ESPN deal but ESPN has more than double the potential audience of Versus (I think)). Anyways, I miss hockey.
Church was good today and tonight. This morning the Executive Director Emeritus of the Gideons International spoke about what the Gideons are doing and how it's going. Tonight Pastor Rick talked about love briefly (he was flying through the points, had a hard time keeping up). It was good.
Well I'm about ready to go to sleep before the game even begins. Why can't newspapers be delivered at like 11pm. Sure you'd miss most of the sports scores but you can get those online. OK, bad idea but I'm not real big on newspapers right now...
Good night!
